To commemorate the centenary of The First World War, The Woodland Trust planted four new woodlands, one in each country of the UK. Langley Vale is the English one, and the once arable land is being swiftly and sympathetically turned into an incredible haven for wildlife. You will find a mixture of new and existing woodland, wildflowers in their millions and a beautiful wooden play area. As well as this there are various memorials and sculptures dedicated to the fallen soldiers of WW1.
The Route
There are two way marked trails to follow, as well as a number of other paths for the more adventurous.
The Remembrance Way Trail is an easy route that passes all the main memorials and sculptures, the community orchard and the play area. The paths are grassy, firm and flat. To do this walk, follow the orange marker posts.
The Downs View Trail is a more strenuous route that also includes all of the main features above, but also passes through established woodland and rises upwards to give views across the North Downs and Epsom Downs Racecourse. There are benches along the way. To do this walk, follow the blue marker posts.
Both walks are well marked at each junction with the coloured marker posts. There are also paper maps of both trails available to pick up at the car park or download this one before you go.
