Basingstoke Canal
The Basingstoke Canal runs for 32 miles, originally connecting Basingstoke to The River Thames in Surrey. Walks beside the nature rich waters are always enjoyable and always flat. This collection brings together our favourite walks beside the canal, some of which also feature parks, play areas, camp-sites, picnic spots, pubs and even a castle.
This stretch of the canal is near Mytchett in Surrey. The walk starts from The Basingstoke Canal Centre with a café, play area and boat hire. It also passes Frimley Park Lodge with another play area and café, as well as a miniature railway.
This stretch of the canal is near Odiham in Hampshire. The walk begins at the wharf where there is a picnic area and pub. It then follows the canal to the free to enter castle ruins before returning via the old deer park.
This stretch of the canal is near Church Crookham in Hamsphire. The walk beside the canal to a pub can be added onto the lovely walk around Zebon Copse. There is also a boardwalk over a mire and a brilliant play area in a nearby park.
This stretch of the canal is near Dogmersfield in Hampshire. The walk starts near The Barley Mow pub and follows the canal before cutting through a private estate with a large and scenic pond.
This walk is slightly different to the others as it follows the unrestored section of the canal, beyond the Greywell Tunnel. The canal on this walk has a wild, peaceful and undisturbed feel.
This walk starts at Crookham Wharf and follows the canal before returning across fields and farmland to Crookham Village where the excellent Exchequer pub awaits.
