Trains to Trails

All aboard! For those of you looking to leave the car behind, the trail head for this collection of walks can all be easily reached from a nearby train station.

Trains: Shawford Station, South Western Railway, Poole to London Waterloo line

Walk: A walk along the Itchen Navigation with a wild swimming spot, water meadows, pub and café.

Trains: Beaulieu Road Station, South Western Railway, Poole to London Waterloo line

Walk: A New Forest walk over causeways, bridges and streams, through woodland and with a nearby pub.

Trains: Fleet Station, South Western Railway, London Waterloo to Basingstoke and Southampton line

Walk: An easy to follow walk around Hampshire’s largest freshwater pond with a picnic area and hidden rocks to find.

Trains: Liss Station, South Western Railway, Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo Line

Walk: A linear walk along an old railway bed following the River Rother. With a small play area and picnic area.

Trains: Amberley Station, Southern Railway, Bognor Regis to London Victoria Line

Walk: A walk along the River Arun, taking in pretty villages such as North Stoke and interesting bridges such as the Ghurka Suspension Bridge. The walk also includes a pub, tea-room and musuem.

Trains: Petersfield Station, South Western Railway, Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo line

Walk: A short and easy walk around a large pond with an excellent play area, wildfowl, café and boats to hire.

Trains: Fishbourne Station, Southern Railway, London Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour line and Brighton to Southampton line

Walk: A linear walk through Chichester Harbour National Landscape with a pub and access to the river for paddling.

Trains: Arundel Station, Southern Railway, London Bridge via Redhill line

Walk: A walk along the River Arun with a play area, castle and riverside pub.

Walk: A linear walk that can begin at the canal basin in Chichester. If you walk all the way to the marina at Birdham, you can catch the bus back.

Walk: A woodland walk beside a stream with paddling spots and industrial ruins to explore.

Trains: Emsworth train station, Southern Railway, Brighton to Portsmouth line

Walk: A walk from the millpond, through a nature reserve, along the river and past an alpaca farm with a coffee stop.

Walk: A walk around historic parkland with a castle and excellent adventure play area.

Walk: A coastal walk through the Chichester Harbour National Landscape.

Walk: A walk from the city that includes the cathedral and Wolvesey Castle as well as Hockley Viaduct and the River Itchen.
