Church Norton
Pagham Harbour is a nature reserve on one of the few undeveloped stretches of the Sussex coastline. It is a wildlife haven and contains important habitats for birds and even seals! Our walk also includes a large, quiet shingle beach.
Lepe Country Park
The Lepe Loop will take you along the beach, returning via woodland and fields. It starts and finishes at Lepe Country Park where there is plenty for families to do. You will want to set aside a day for this one!
Titchfield Canal
Beginning at Meon shore this linear walk follows the canal on its way to the historic village of Titchfield. For much of the journey, Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve is clearly in view where you will spot a variety of wetland birds and hear their calls.
Titchfield Haven
The Meon River completes its journey at Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve, a 369 acre site of river, fen, pools, reedbed and meadows. There are eight bird hides from which to enjoy the wide variety of wildlife, and on the east side they are connected by a series of boardwalks. Tickets need to be purchased from the visior centre.
Hayling Billy Line
The Hayling Billy Trail is a former railway track that used to bring tourists down to holiday by the sea. Nowadays the route provides a brilliantly flat multi-use path for walkers and cyclists along the entire western shore of the island.
Chidham Peninsula
A walk around the Chidham peninsula is well worth the effort due to its central position in The Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. But, if the full 8km walk is too much for your family, we have provided details of some shorter options that won’t compromise on the views.
Keyhaven Marshes Nature Reserve
Walk along the seawall and enjoy stunning views of the marshes and mudflats that make up this nature reserve, which is not only beautiful, but also an internationally important habitat for migratory birds. The walk is entirely flat and very easy to follow.
Netley
This isn’t a long walk, but it still has an awful lot to see and do. You will find large grassy spaces for picnics, a shoreline with Southampton Water, a waterside play area, wooded glades with bluebells and the crowning glory of this walk - the magnificent romantic ruins of Netley Abbey.
Royal Victoria Country Park
Royal Victoria is a country park with something for everyone from woodland to shoreline to parkland. Throughout this landscape you will find historical buildings, play areas and a miniature trainline. The whole park is flat and has marked trails, making it easy to explore.
