This is a gem of a walk starting out beside a beautiful old village church (and pub!) with access to The River Meon via a peaceful little nature reserve.

This was one of the very first walks that we included on The Ambling Path and despite having walked over 130 more family walks since, this remains a firm favourite due to the easy route and the opportunities to access the River Meon.

This little nature reserve packs in an awful lot. We managed to spend a few hours here last winter, and in the summer we probably could have spent even more!

Follow the Radnor Trail through varied woodland from ancient deciduous to Norway spruce to Bratley Water where children can splash in the stream. The walk ends at a viewing platform, where if you are lucky, you will see a herd of fallow deer. A great choice for the autumn.

This has to be one of the very best family walks in The New Forest. It is flat, short, signposted and has two paddling locations, picnicking spots, an ice-cream van, ponies and toilets. It can be busy in the summer, but pop on your wellies and have it to yourself in winter.

When the tide is out, this quiet, dog friendly corner of Hayling Island provides a sandy beach and sand dunes. A great place for a family stroll by the sea.
